This will show you how to add a responsive lightbox to WordPress that opens links to images in a full width, device-friendly window.
Not only is this an elegant solution that works in native WordPress galleries but it also improves usability by preventing a new page loading. The overlay works for devices and allows swiping with IOS and Android devices.
How To Add A Responsive Lightbox To WordPress
To get this mobile compatible lightbox, you’ll need to install the Responsive Lightbox plugin.
By default this plugin adds mobile responsive lightbox links to:
- YouTube and Vimeo video links
- Native WordPress galleries
- Image links
This means that all you need to do is activate this plugin and whenever you add a link to the selected media it will open automatically in a full width device-friendly window.
So just click the Add Media button in the editor and select the image you want to add to your page, making sure to select Media File from the Link To option.
Likewise when you create a WordPress gallery or link to a YouTube or Vimeo video the lightbox will show.
You can customize this behavior by navigating to Settings >> Responsive Lightbox Lite.
That’s it! You’re all ready to rock.
