But first, some background…
I spent years with Hostgator.
And while they were cheap and allowed a lot of domains I recently started feeling like I needed hosting that was unique to WordPress as a platform.
Surely someone had put together a package that gave WordPress a boost in terms of speed and support?
I’ve been on their GrowBig shared hosting plan for 4 months now and have had nothing but smooth sailing as you will discover below.
8 Reasons Why SiteGround WordPress Hosting Rocks
Here’s why I’m now a huge fan of SiteGround WordPress hosting.
1. WordPress Specific Hosting
This means running the latest version of PHP and other web server hosting technologies that will make your WordPress site run smoothly in every way. You’ll never have to worry about plugins not working or not meeting server requirements.
Their WordPress auto-updates system monitors new releases and updates your site automatically. This ensures maximum security and code efficiency.
3. Staging Server Testing
This means you can create major updates such as theme changes on a separate space and only when you are happy make them live. This means zero downtime for your site as well as protection against any big mistakes you might make.
4. Awesome Customer Service
I’m not just throwing around that term. They truly are awesome. Friendly, fast and helpful, the support team often reply within an hour of posting a support request.
5. HackAlert Monitoring
Every week I get an email from them declaring my websites clean from any hacking or malware. Their system checks your live site on a regular basis to make sure no-one is tampering with your files.
6. Free Transfer
If you decide to transfer your current site across to SiteGround, they will do the transfer for you free. All with no downtime for your current site.
7. Daily Backups
SiteGround keep up to 30 daily backup copies of your WordPress site. It’s a good idea to have your own independent backups but it’s great to know your hosting has you covered as well.
SiteGround are committed to providing the fastest shared hosting available. They implement a combination of SSD hardware, optimized servers, the Geeky Supercacher and WordPress plugin for easy use, a free CDN (Content Delivery Network), HTTP2 enabled servers, as well as the latest PHP software environment.
This video gives a quick summary.
NOTE: Using a combination of the right plugins and speed optimization technologies on SiteGround this website now scores 99/100 in Google Page Speed Insights. On shared hosting!
There are 2 main downsides of the SiteGround hosting service:
- Cost – They are not the cheapest shared hosting service for WordPress. The quality of their server speeds and support comes at a price.
- CPU Limits – They have been criticized for this and in some ways rightly so. Their CPU limits (number of executions per month) are set quite low in order that other users on a shared hosting service do not suffer in speed and bandwidth. It is an issue if you have a very well trafficked site or have setup in such a way that it uses a lot of processor cycles. The solution is to optimize your site and/or upgrade your plan.
In short SiteGround are a great team of people working together to make the very best environment for your WordPress website.
